Naha (AFP) – About 15,000 people joined to mark the annual tug-of-war event in Naha, Japan on October 11. The event was the world’s largest rope festival.
The competition known as the Annual Naha O-tsunahiki was held in Naha, southern island of Okinawa.
The Naha rope consists of two sections: the mizuna, or female, and uzuna, or male. The two sections will be brought together and connected with a pin called a kanuchi before the actual tug of war starts.
The festival signifies the harmony of East and West Naha.
