Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – The average debt rate was 740,000 baht per household in the past five years. C 3-5 officials had the highest debt.
12,945 civil-service employees were interviewed.
A survey on civil servants’ cost of living was conducted to present information about debt burden, income and expenses.
The information would be considered so that the government could determine its salary and welfare policies.
84 percent averagely had the debt of more than 700,000 baht per household.
85.8 percent were C 3-5 officials who had the highest debt. C 6-8 civil servants came in the second place and C 1-2 civil-service employees in the third place.
The lowest debt was among C 9-11 officials. However, their debt rate was up to more than one million baht per household.
56.3 percent of debt were in the property sector whereas 16.7 percent in the vehicle repair and 12.4 percent in the consumer product sector.
3.7 percent were debt for education.
The average income of the sample group was 41,139 baht per month while the average spending was 41,139 baht per month.
The government was urged to adjust measures to support the civil servants to be in line with changing cost of living.
