Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has joined the public health ministry and department of livestock development to campaign for poultry safety during the Chinese New Year Festival.

The scheme is to promote safe poultry to be used to worship the Chinese gods during the festival.

BMA has closely watched and prevented the bird flu since 2005.

Last year, it was reported that 53 people might be infected by the bird flu virus, but there was not such a case.

BMA will enforce 42 slaughterhouses to control their hygiene. Poultry imports will be checked at thirteen points on all roads to Bangkok.

Information about bird flu spreading and prevention can be reached at 02-354-1836, 02-245-8106 or hotline 1555.

Commerce ministry was assigned to examine the consumer product prices nationwide to prevent price overcharging during the festival.

Prices of products such as poultry and fruit reportedly declined because of global economic crisis and domestic economic condition.
