Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – Commerce ministry expects tapioca exports will value more than 50 billion baht this year and will increase more next year.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva presided over the 2009 international tapioca conference hosted by Thailand on January 15.
The government had a policy to promote tapioca growing for domestic consumption and export.
Tapioca yields not less than 1,400 million US dollars a year of revenue to the country.
Countries on the Africa continent are more keen to plant tapioca since it can deal with food shortage.
Commerce Minister Pornthiva Nakhasai said commerce ministry was ready to fully support tapioca development.
Commerce ministry targeted to expand the tapioca market to new markets like Russia and India during 2009-2010.
Tapioca deals worth more than four billion baht were signed between Thai and foreign private sectors on January 15.
