Bangkok - Business sector believed the Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva would help boost the country’s economy if he became a new prime minister and head of the economic team.

Abhisit told the reporters he would chair the economic team himself if becoming the new premier.

Santi Vilassakdanont, president of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), said that was a good sign and would boost the economy soon.

Santi also said that appointing competent outsiders to the economic team would bring back investors’ confidence more.

The new government was urged to stimulate investment as well as consumers’ confidence both at home and abroad.

Aram Vattananont, president of the Thai Frozen Foods Association (TFFA), said the acceptable government would bring Thailand out of crisis.

He added that the setup of a new government should be done the soonest.

235 MPs reportedly voted for Abhisit to be the 27th prime minister of Thailand whereas 198 MPs for Gen Pracha Promnok.

It was reported that the House Speaker Chai Chidchob, Abhisit and another MP from Chart Thai Party refrained from voting while Pracha voted for himself.
