Bangkok - The unemployment rate in 2009 is not worrying compared to the rate in 2001. Big job fairs will be held early next year.
It was previously forecast that up to one million people would be unemployed next year.
September’s unemployment rate was less than 3 percent of the total employment rate, according to the department of employment.
Thailand’s unemployment rate was 900,000 in 2001 while the export growth was minus 7.1 percent.
Government and private investments were said to only grow 0.5 percent during that time.
The department of employment plans to hold big job fairs nationwide in mid-February 2009.
One-stop recruitment service is also available at enterprises which more than 300 people lose jobs.
It was estimated that export growth would not be lower than 5 percent in 2009 if the situation were bad.
