Bangkok - Lightning conductors and ornaments were not the causes of the lightning as people understood, according to an expert.
Panya Thanaboonsombat, a scientific expert, said ornaments like ring, necklace and pin, were not the causes of the lightning.
Normally, lightning occurs when a negative charge under cloud is induced to an object on earth which is a positive charge. Thus, all objects under cloud are at lightning risk.
There are three possible ways for lightning to take place.
First, electricity will directly enter human body when contacting an object which is struck by lightning.
Second, it is a side lightning and there is no contacting point which an object is struck by lightning.
Third, the electricity runs through ground, especially in the wet areas.
Safety measures are being inside the building or car with closed mirror, no use of wired phone, no Internet surfing, and disconnecting television plug.
Last month, two Australians and three Thais were killed at a waterfall in Mukdahan during their school trip.
