Bangkok - Pipob Thongchai, one of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) leaders, urged people to keep eye on the setup of an investigation panel, planning to campaign for social sanction against police.

The government set up an 11-member committee to probe into October 7 violence.

Pipob said Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat had no right to appoint such committee since he masterminded the crackdown.

It is questioned how much independent the panel will be.

The premier was urged to step down to show responsibility for the incident. Police clashed with the PAD protesters on October 7 to bring the cabinet to present its policies to parliament.

Though police tried to destroy evidence at the scene, Pipob vowed to bring cases against the culprits to court.

He said the PAD would campaign for social sanction against police to show that they disagreed to violence.

The PAD will tomorrow hold rites and give alms to Buddhist monks to dedicate merits to those who were dead due to October 7 incident.
