Bangkok - Government Savings Bank (GSB) and Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) unions issued a joint statement to support the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) rally.
Employees were allowed to join the rally though both banks could not close as that would affect people using their services nationwide.
The statement was to back the Confederation of State Enterprise Labor Union which consists of 43 state enterprise labor unions.
The confederation joined the PAD demonstration to protest against charter change, privatization, corruption, and intervention in state enterprises’ boards.
The bank unions opposed the use of violence and tear gas to disperse the protesters on August 26.
Using violence against aged and female demonstrators is unacceptable for the unions.
Last week, train services in the north, northeast and south were suspended.
Hat Yai, Phuket and Krabi Airports were also closed to act against the corrupt government.
