Bangkok - South Korea warned its people not to travel to Thailand, citing the ongoing political conflict between the Thai government and the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD).
"Korean citizens should stay away from any sites of demonstration and others who plan to travel to Thailand should wait until calm returns," the foreign ministry said in a statement.
Emergency text messages were also sent to South Koreans’ mobile phones, issuing warnings on the Internet.
Hundreds of South Koreans were left stranded at the Phuket Airport, Thailand’s second-busiest airport.
The airport has been closed since Friday afternoon.
About 15,000 passengers were in Phuket on Saturday as the airport was beseized by the PAD members.
So far, Phuket and Krabi Airport were temporarily closed.
