Bangkok - The happiness index for Thai people remained at 96.8, the lowest level in twenty two months since October 2006, according to the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce’s survey.

The low happiness index was caused by concerns over soaring oil prices and higher cost of living.

It also became worse because of unstable political situation and corruption problem which could not be solved in this government.

The consumer confidence index remained at 71.0.

The government’s six-month measures seemed to positively have a psychological effect on Thais.

Dusit Nontanakorn, vice president of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, said politics was a major risk factor affecting the economic growth.

He also said that the private sector still had confidence in the juridical process though the former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra failed to appear before the court.
