BANGKOK (AFP) - Two rottweiler dogs have mauled a 20-month-old girl to death in Thailand, police said Thursday, despite the desperate efforts of her mother to save the child.
Romklao Plu, know as Nina, was attacked by the family's guard dogs at her home after a birthday party in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima.
The victim's mother Jintana, 42, also sustained injuries as she bit and fought the canines in the struggle to save her daughter.
"Romklao Plu died instantly at her house with serious wounds to her torso, neck and ribs," case officer Lieutenant Colonel Somnuek Jiamjungreed said.
"We will investigate whether anyone recklessly unleashed the dogs, which are fierce animals."
The girl's grandmother told Thai television that she considering having the dogs put to sleep since she feared they could attack again.
