Bangkok - Thai people were expected to spend about six billion baht on the coming Mother’s Day, according to a poll by the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce.
Most Thais planned to give gifts to their mothers, have a meal, make merits and do an activity together.
Most gifts were garlands (48%), ornaments and others (24.6%) and health drinks (98%).
This year’s spending should remain at about 6,910 million baht.
54% would spend less than 500 baht while 29.8% would pay 500-1,000 baht up for their presents.
As for mothers’ opinions towards their children, 34.6% expressed concerns over work and study.
30.8% and 20% concerned about drugs problem and bad friends respectively.
They were sad if their children did not obey them, were addicted to gambling and had more time for boyfriends or girlfriends than their mothers.
The Mother’s Day usually falls on August 12.
