Bangkok - The Supreme Court agreed to hear new corruption charges against former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra concerning loan giving to Myanmar.
Thaksin was sued by the Assets Examination Committee (AEC) in this case.
Export-Import Bank of Thailand (Exim Bank) was ordered to grant four billion baht of loan at a low interest rate to Myanmar. The loan is to develop Myanmar’s telecom system.
Shin Corporation’s Shin Satellite Plc was said to benefit from Myanmar’s project.
This is the third case against the then-premier Thaksin accepted by the court. The first case is about the Ratchada land scandal and the second one is the lottery case.
The first hearing will take place on September 16.
Thaksin and his wife Pojaman were yesterday allowed by the court to travel to China and Japan in August.
Neither Thaksin nor his lawyer attended the hearing Wednesday.
