Bangkok - The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) joined the United Nations Development Programme to make Thailand’s first gender database.
The project is aimed at reducing the social gap, developing Thailand’s potential and supporting the equality between men and women.
The illness rate of women was higher than that of men, according to MSDHS 2008 survey.
The highest rate could be seen among rural people in the north.
The interesting point was that women’s life span was about seven year longer than men’s.
Women’s average age was 75.4 years while men’s average age was 68.4 years.
Female youths had better Internet skill than male youths.
As for violence which married women faced, women used to be harmed physically and mentally.
The number of harmed women was over one million last month.
Women aged 15-49 years were surveyed on this topic.
The poorest people were in the northeast, and women played an important role in taking care of the family.
