BANGKOK - PM’s Office Minister Chakrapob Penkair accused of insulting the monarchy resigned amid speculation that he will face criminal charges.
Jakrapob Penkair, announced his resignation at a press conference, but denied any wrongdoing.
"I did nothing wrong, but I am resigning because there is too much pressure on the prime minister and the government," he told reporters.
"I had no intention of insulting the monarchy. I will prove myself through the justice system," Jakrapob added.
Police said Thursday they had enough evidence to press ahead with charges that Jakrapob insulted Thailand's royals.
The lese majeste charges are related to a speech Jakrapob gave last year at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Thailand about the 2006 coup.
Jakrapob could face up to 15 years in prison if a court finds him guilty.
