BANGKOK - More than 50 percent of Thai people fear another coup occurring within the next six months, a leading pollster said on Sunday.

55.6% said Thailand might have a coup during the next six months, according to Assumption University’s poll.

54.6 percent expected some unexpected, violent event to occur.

3,404 people were surveyed from May 6-10.

Only 53.6 percent of respondents expected Samak Sundaravej to remain in the office as prime minister.

Thailand has a long history of coups, the most recent in 2006, when the military unseated prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Some 87.8 percent of people said they expected to face more expensive commodity prices and 80.1 percent were braced for increased crime.
