Bangkok - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) invites the general public to clean toilets nationwide to mark the Songkran Festival which is the Thai new year.

Mr. Charnchai Withoonpanyakij, director of BMA’s environment institute, said BMA invited Thai people and the owners of public toilets to clean toilets during April 1-7.

This is to promote the Thai culture and mark the colorful Songkran Festival.

The toilet cleaning will actually take place on April 4.

The event is also to welcome tourists who will visit Thailand during the water splashing festival.

How to use the toilet properly will be introduced to Thai people and tourists.

They will be trained not to sit on the toilet bowl, leave other stuff except tissue paper in the toilet bowl, flush the toilet and wash their hands after using the toilet.

According to a survey, 20% of the public toilets are not clean. Public toilets are available at places like tourist attractions, food shops, wet markets, bus and air terminals, petrol stations, schools, hospitals, public parks, etc.
