BANGKOK - Ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra on Saturday checked out of the luxury Peninsula Hotel where he has been staying since his triumphant return from exile, his spokesperson said.
His spokeswoman Sansani Nakpong declined to say where Thaksin would be moving to. She only said the 58-year-old former prime minister would remain in Thailand, according to AFP.
Thaksin has been staying at the lavish Peninsula Hotel since Thursday.
"He already checked out of the Peninsula this morning. He said he needs more privacy for him and his family," Sansani said.
Thaksin's emotional return ended 17 months of self-imposed exile since he was toppled in a military coup in September 2006.
Thaksin, who is facing corruption charges, is scheduled to appear in the Supreme Court on March 12.
It is expected Thaksin will stay at his villa in Phetchaburi or Chiang Mai next week.
