Bangkok - The EU and Japan put off their frozen chicken import after the outbreak of the bird flu in Thailand.
Mr. Theerasak Urunanont, CPF Food’s deputy managing director, admitted the outbreak of the bird flu in Thailand made the country lose an opportunity to export frozen chicken as the EU and Japan both delayed their import indefinitely.
However, the export of cooked chicken tends to go up 10-15% from the previous year.
Consumers buy more meat ducks and chickens, especially those with food safety stickers to worship their ancestors this year, according to Mr. Sakchai Sriboonsue, director-general of the Livestock Department.
Previously, the bird flu broke out in Nakhon Sawan and Phichit province respectively.
Dr. Paichit Warachit, Public Health Ministry’s deputy permanent-secretary, confirmed there has been no bird flu in humans so far.
