Bangkok - 28 billion baht will be spent during the Chinese New Year, according to ABAC poll. Thai people tend to spend less this year.
5.6 billion baht will be spent on stuff for ancestors worship while about 13 billion baht on red envelopes, and 9.3 billion baht on sight-seeing and others.
3,506 respondents in 27 provinces were surveyed during January 20-30.
Besides, more than one in four Thai-Chinese people tended to spend less during this Chinese New Year.
78.9% would not go sight-seeing while 21.1% intended to go somewhere.
The interesting point was that 39.4% positively thought about their financial status while 39.1% negatively thought about their financial status and 21.5% were uncertain about their financial status.
Sluggish economy and higher cost of living were the main causes of decreasing income, according to the survey.
