Bangkok - Thai Airways International had placed an Airbus engine order worth about 300 million dollars (203 million euros).

Thai Airways has selected Rolls-Royce's Trent 700 engine to power its new fleet of eight Airbus A330-300s, a joint statement said.

The engines, slated for delivery from 2009 onwards, will be supported under a 10-year service agreement, according to AFP.

The Trent 700 engine from Rolls-Royce has a 50 percent share in the corporate market.

"We have developed a strong relationship with Rolls-Royce since we started operating the Trent 800 (engine) in 1996," said Khun Tummasak, executive vice president technical at Thai Airways.

"During that time, Rolls-Royce has demonstrated an excellent understanding of our business requirements which has helped them provide the highest levels of support for our operation."

Rolls-Royce is the British aircraft engine maker, the second-largest in the world, behind General Electric Aviation. The company has related businesses in the defence aerospace, marine and energy markets.

It claimed the Trent 700 is the quietest and cleanest engine available on the A330.
