ซีรีส์แนวแฟนตาซี Game of Thrones มีชื่อลุ้นรางวัล Emmy เกียรติยศสูงสุดของวงการโทรทัศน์สหรัฐฯ ถึง 23 สาขา มากที่สุดในปีนี้เหนือผลงานซีรีส์เรื่องอื่น ๆ ทั้งหมด
โดย Game of Thrones ที่คว้ารางวัลได้ถึง 12 สาขา จนเป็นประวัติศาสตร์คว้ารางวัลในปีเดียวมากที่สุดของ Emmy เมื่อปีก่อน แทบจะเข้าชิงรางวัลทุกสาขาของซีรีส์ดรามาในปีนี้ และแน่นอนว่า มีชื่อชิงรางวัลใหญ่ซีรีส์แนวดรามายอดเยี่ยมร่วมกับ House of Cards, Better Call Saul, Mr. Robot, Downton Abbey, The Americans และ Homeland
ส่วนผลงานที่ชิงรางวัลมากสาขาที่สุดรองลงมา ก็คือ มินิซีรีส์ The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story ของทาง FX ที่ชิงรางวัล 22 สาขา และ Fargo ชิงรางวัล 18 สาขา
สำหรับรางวัลในสาขาตลกยังคงเป็นซีรีส์แนวเสียดสีการเมือง Veep ของ HBO ที่ จูเลีย หลุยส์-ดรัยฟัส สวมบทบาทเป็นประธานาธิบดีหญิงผู้อับโชค เซลีน เมเยอร์ ที่ชิงรางวัลถึง 17 สาขา รวมถึงรางวัลใหญ่ซีรีส์แนวตลกยอดเยี่ยม แข่งกับ Black-ish, Master of None, Modern Family, Silicon Valley, Transparent และ Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
ด้านผู้พลาดหวัง The Good Wife ที่เคยคว้ารางวัล Emmy มา 3 ตัว นับจากออกอากาศ เมื่อปี 2010 กลับพลาดการได้เข้าชิงรางวัลใหญ่ในสาขาซีรีส์ยอดเยี่ยมในปีนี้ ส่วน Orange is the New Black ไม่ได้ชิงรางวัลแม้แต่สาขาเดียว
รางวัล Emmy ครั้งที่ 68 จะมีขึ้นในวันที่ 18 ก.ค. 2016 ณ Microsoft Theater ใน ดาวทาวน์ ลอสแองเจลิส แคลิฟอร์เนีย โดยมี จิมมี คิมเมล เป็นพิธีกร ส่วนการประกาศรายชื่อผู้เข้าชิงรางวัลเมื่อวันที่ 14 ก.ค. ที่ผ่านมา มี แอนโทนี แอนเดอร์สัน กับ ลอเรน แกรห์ม รับหน้าที่พิธีกร
