I am deeply saddened by the passing of His Excellency Mr. Kofi Annan, a remarkable human being, a global icon who radiated compassion, intelligence, and dignity as he served the world tirelessly with dedication during its most complicated period.
Under Mr. Kofi Annan’s calm, resolute and soft voice stood a strongly determined giant who enhanced the United Nations’ central role in international affairs in fighting poverty, and amplifying peacekeeping and addressing regional conflicts with the strength of his convictions.
I was most honored to have interacted with Mr. Kofi Annan at the United Nations several times during my tenure as the Prime Minister of Thailand. He always inspired me with his charisma, enthusiasm, courage and wisdom in his decisions to address the most critical global issues. He gave hope to the voiceless and adhered strongly to his principles of peace, justice and the rule of law. He is truly a legend who uplifted the lives of millions in a single lifetime.
My family and I send our heartfelt condolences to Your Excellency, Mr. Annan's family, the UN Secretariat and the people of Ghana at this time of sorrow. May his legacy and spirit remain alive always.
