MADRID (AFP) - A two-year-old French boy fell to his death from the third floor of a beachside hotel in northern Spain on Sunday, the day after his parents checked in for a short holiday, police said.
The toddler climbed on a table that was on the balcony of a room at the four-star Hotel Terraza in Roses, a seaside town in Catalonia in northeastern Spain near the French border, when he fell, a local police spokesman said.
The boy's parents were in the hotel room at the time but were not able to stop the boy from falling, he added.
Hotel staff called emergency services who rushed to the scene but they were not able to do anything to save the boy who died instantly from the serious injuries suffered in the fall.
The family, who are from the south of France, had checked into the hotel on Saturday for a few days of vacation.
The boy's parents received psychological care at the hotel after the accident.
