ROME (AFP) - A group of thieves got away with a jailbreak with a difference when they broke into a prison in northern Italy and stole a safe.
The robbers, who are still at large, broke into the prison director's office overnight Tuesday and made off with a safe containing around 5,000 euros ($6,700), the Corriere della Sera newspaper said.
The thieves must have known the prison well because they used two underground passages that have no CCTV cameras to gain access, and only had to force two unarmoured doors, La Repubblica reported on its website.
The money -- which La Repubblica put at 6,000 euros -- had been left there for the prisoners by their families.
