Different types of insects have become fossilized remains in amber for twenty million years, according to the Peruvian Paleontological Meyer-H?nningen Museum of Chiclayo in northern Peru.

Fossilized insect remains have been preserved in amber following an excavation in the Santiago river basin in the Amazon region, according to AFP.

Hundreds of pieces of gemstone were made from a fossilized plant resin of up to 12 centimetres.

Plant resins are extracts taken from either the entire plant or particular part of the plant. They serve several purposes such as recreational, medicinal as well as spiritual ones.

Various types of insects such as Psocoptera, Diptera, Coleoptera, Hemiptera and spiders belonging to the Neogene Era are commonly found in any fossilized plant resin.

Neogene period refers to the second of three divisions of the Cenozoic Era. It includes the Miocene (23-5.3 million years ago) and the Pliocene (5.3-2.6 million years ago).

The period also covers the interval between 23 and 2.6 million years ago. The term "Neogene" means "new born" (as cited at http://www.britannica.com).

In other words, the Neogene period started 24 million years ago and continues to the present time (as cited at http://www.fossils-facts-and-finds.com).

Lima, the capital of Peru, is the largest city with a population of nearly nine million, according to wikipedia website.

Founded by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro in 1535, Lima is also a home to one of the Latin America's largest financial hubs.
