Santo Domingo (AFP) - Psychology student Dalia Fernandez was elected Miss Dominican Republic 2011 or Miss Republica Dominicana Universo 2011 in Santo Domingo.
Dalia Fernandez from Santiago de los Caballeros will represent her country in Miss Universe 2011 pageant, which will take place in Brazil next September.
The 21-year old beauty queen, who was crowned by outgoing queen Eva Arias, stands 1.73 m or 5' 9" tall (as cited at http://globalbeauties.com).
Miss Santo Domingo Norte Katherine Cruz was the first runner-up while Miss Distrito Nacional Kirssi Abreu came in the second place. Both Katherine Cruz and Kirssi Abreu will reportedly compete in the Miss Continente Americano and Reina Hispanoamericana contests.
Evaida Santana from Peravia was the third runner-up and Luz Goico from El Seibo was the fourth runner-up.
Both of them will compete in the Miss Supranational 2011 and Miss
Intercontinental 2011, according to wikipedia website.
Reigning Miss Universe Jimena Navarrete, member of the judging panel, was in charge of asking questions during the interview round (as cited at

Maite Brito (Miss Global Teen 2010) and Sarodj Bertin (Miss Haiti Universe 2010) were part of the special guests attending this beauty contest.
The public reported booed the jury members when the representative from Santiago instead of favorite Katherine Cruz was chosen Miss Dominican Republic 2011 (as cited at http://www.dominicantoday.com).
