Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – Light will be turned off on five main roads in Bangkok to mark the Earth Hour 2009. Worldwide people will join to switch off their light for one hour.
Some areas of Bangkok will be in darkness from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Campaign will take place on Kao San, Silom, Ratchadapisek, Yaowaraj and New Phetburi Road.
680 cities in 84 countries will join this activity to cool off heat to reduce the global warming.
Participating cities include London, Manchester, Chicago, Atlanta, Hong Kong, Beijing, Brisbane, etc.
It is estimated that up to 30 percent of energy or 1,384 megawatts will be saved during the Earth Hour.
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration plans to promote Bangkok to be one of the top ten cities which reduce energy consumption the most.
The campaign will be extended to cover Phuket and Chiang Mai next year.
