Bangkok (Own Source) – Wonder Girls, top female singers group of South Korea, plan to file legal actions against overseas entertainment companies who copy their work, according to JYP Entertainment.
Thailand is one of the target countries apart from China and Cambodia.
Piracy and plagiarism has been on the rise in the region, and this affects foreign firms in terms of financial loss since these companies legally buy the rights to use the songs.
JYP Entertainment also plans to consult Sony ATV, its overseas copyright manager, on measures to deal with copycats.
Korean pop singers often fall victim to plagiarism due to their increasing popularity in recent years.
Wonder Girls first debuted in February 2007 and became popular after the “Tell Me” song.
With songs such as Tell Me, So Hot and Nobody, the female pop band has produced three consecutive number-one hit singles.
Wonder Girls were selected a top girl group by Virgin Media in September 2008, and won two Artist of the Year Awards.
They were also ranked among renowned bands such as Pussycat Dolls, Girl Aloud and Danity Kane.
Wonder Girls Live in Bangkok concert took place in Bangkok on February 28 as part of their international tour.
