Yala, THAILAND - Thai-Muslim villagers looked at a lantern in the shape of an elephant displayed during the lantern festival in Yala.
The festival took place on March 6, 2009.
More than 3,600 people have been killed since unrest erupted five years ago in the deep south. Tensions have simmered since predominantly Buddhist Thailand annexed the mainly Malay sultanate in 1902.
