Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – Up to 76.4 percent turned to cost reduction to deal with the current economic crisis, and 81.5 percent of households in the north relied on this method the most.
About 26,000 households nationwide were surveyed by the National Statistical Office.
70 percent thought Thailand’s economy became worse than last year. Only 5.9 percent said the economic condition was better.
13.4 percent adjusted to the economic downturn by trying not to build more debt whereas 3.1 percent by going out less often.
Only 2.2 percent used their savings to survive the situation and 1.5 percent tried to consume less energy.
69.6 percent of nationwide households, especially in the south were affected by increasing oil prices.
37.7 percent wanted the government to help control oil prices whereas 33.9 percent voted for product price freezing.
As for energy saving, 98.7 percent said they switched off lights which were not used while 96.4 percent turned off electrical appliances when they did not use them.
About 91.7 percent set the temperature of their air-conditions at 25-26 degrees celsius while about 91 percent pulled out plugs whenever they finished using electrical appliances.
