Food exports expected to grow only 10 percent next year

Bangkok - With decreasing food exports in 2009, Thailand’s overall food exports will grow only 10 percent, according to the industry ministry.

It was expected that food exports would value about 200,000 million baht in the fourth quarter, up 7 percent.

Food export growth increased 47.2 percent in the third quarter.

It was estimated that the overall export value should not be lower than 800,000 million baht.

Overall food exports would grow 10 percent in 2009.

The GDP growth was expected to remain at 31-35 percent while the inflation rate at 4 percent.

The currency exchange rate would remain at 34-36 baht to one US dollar because of foreign outflows.

The government and private sectors were urged to aggressively market food products in major export markets.
