Deputy Transport Minister Mr. Sansern Woncha-um said Thailand’s airline industry has not been affected by the Myanmar protests so far. Thai Airways and Thai AirAsia still provide their flight services to Myanmar.
There are Thai AirAsia flights from the Suvarnabhumi Airport to Rangoon everyday. It normally takes about one hour to reach Rangoon. Return flights are also available on the same day.
According to Thai AirAsia CEO Tassapon Bijleveld, the situation in Myanmar does not reach the point flight cancellation has to be announced.
Air travel to Myanmar averagely accounts for 80%. Passengers are mostly businessmen and tourists.
However, Tourism and Sports Ministry warned Thai travelers to postpone their trips for their safety if possible.
According to the Association of Thai Tour Operators, 80% of thousands of the tourists begin to put off their trips indefinitely.
Thai AirAsia is a joint venture of Malaysian low-fare airline AirAsia and Thailand's Asia Aviation. It serves AirAsia's regularly scheduled domestic and international flights from Bangkok and other cities in Thailand.
Thai AirAsia is the only low-cost airline operating both domestic and international flights from the Suvarnabhumi Airport.
