SINGAPORE (AFP) - Creative game design and online entrepreneurship will be offered by some Singapore high schools in a bid to give students more room for "applied learning," the government says.

Other examples of the elective courses are "electronic product design" and "food innovation", the government said in a statement received Wednesday.

"These will further enrich students' learning experiences, and help them to discover their strengths and interests," the statement said.

The electives, typically 40-hour courses, will be offered in collaboration with polytechnic institutes at 10 to 15 high schools starting in 2007, the government said.

English, mathematics, languages, science and humanities remain relevant as a core curriculum and should be retained, it said.
