BANGKOK (Manager Daily – Red Hat Corp, open source and Linux solution provider, joins Bangkok University to set up the “Red Hat Academy”, to be the first open source center in Thailand and Southeast Asia.

The Red Hat Academy will focus on the quality and modern courses concerning open source technology and Linux OS. The university will issue the certificates for the Red Hat Certified Technicians.

“The Linux operating system is the fastest growing in the world. It can work with various IT infrastructure systems and applications. The bright future is seen for the open source software in Thailand,” said Steve McWireter, Red Hat’s Asia-Pacific vice-president.

Open source solutions are widely used by enterprises. However, training is needed to ensure the proper and efficient use, he said.

Bangkok University will join Red Hat to run two academic courses – one for the post-graduate level and another is the “Red Hat Certified Technician”

Dr. Matthana Santiwatr, BU’s vice rector for education, said the courses are very suitable and serve the university’s policy to develop students’ IT skills in the short term, which will benefit the country in the long run.
