BANGKOK (Manager Daily)- The Motor Expo 2004 ended with over 1.6 million people visitors, and nearly THB20 billion of cash flowed across. But higher prices of all the makes made over-all orders drop from expected 20,000 to 18,000 units.

Toyota was the champion in term of sale followed by Honda and Mazda respectively, said the organizer.

Chairman of the organizing committee, Kwanchai Prapassapong, said the higher price of cars, which is THB350,000 baht per unit in average, had dumped sale orders from expected 20,000 to 18,000 units. The orders might falter further next year, he said.

Mr. Kwanchai, who is the president of International Media Co., however said the 12-day 21st Motor Expo at the IMPACT Muang Thong Thani on December 1-12 was successful in terms of number of visitors, participants, and general sales.

Toyota tops sale categories with 5,856 units of the make ordered, followed by Honda (2,049), Mazda (1,616), Chevrolet (1,535) and Mitsubishi (1,189) respectively. Luxurious Ferrari and Aston Martin units also netted orders.

This year’s sales of 18,181 units represented a slight decrease from 18,418 in last year’s event, Mr. Kwanchai said.

There were up to 1.6 million visitors to this year’s Motor Expo, the peek was on December 5 when 220,000 people crowded into exhibition halls, he said.
