ก่อนหน้านี้ "แอคติวิชั่น" หนึ่งในค่ายเกมยักษ์ใหญ่ของโลก ออกมาเปิดเผยรายชื่อเพลงที่จะมีในเกมดนตรี "กีตาร์ ฮีโร่ 5" ล่าสุดแอคติวิชั่น ออกมาเปิดเผยฟีเจอร์ใหม่ในเกมภาค 5 ตัวนี้ โดยระบุว่าเกมกีตาร์ ฮีโร่ 5 เวอร์ชัน Xbox360 ผู้เล่นสามารถนำตัวละครอวาตาร์ที่สร้างขึ้นมาใช้เป็นตัวละครในเกมได้
นอกจาก Axel Steel ซึ่งเป็นตัวละครนักดนตรีขาประจำของซีรีส์กีตาร์ ฮีโร่ และฟังก์ชันการสร้างตัวละครในเกมแล้ว ผู้เล่นที่มีเกมเวอร์ชัน Xbox360 สามารถนำตัวละครอวาตาร์(Avatar) ที่ตัวเองสร้างขึ้นมาใช้เป็นตัวละครบนเวทีในเกมกีตาร์ ฮีโร่ 5 ได้ โดยสามารถเลือกไปใช้ได้ในทุกตำแหน่งบนเวที ไม่ว่าจะเป็น กีตาร์ , กลอง หรือร้องนำ
อย่างไรก็ตามการนำตัวละครอวาตาร์ไปใช้ในเกมกีตาร์ ฮีโร่ 5 ก็ไม่ได้เปิดให้ใช้อย่างอิสระ เพราะก่อนหน้านี้ไมโครซอฟท์ได้มีการออกระเบียบข้อบังคับเกี่ยวกับการใช้ตัวละครตัวแทนของผู้เล่นในเกมของ XBL Indie games ซึ่งสามารถสันนิษฐานได้ว่าจะนำระเบียบดังกล่าวไปใช้เป็นมาตรฐานของเกม third-party ด้วย เพื่อป้องกันมิให้มีการนำตัวละครอวาตาร์ที่สร้างขึ้นแปลกๆ หรือมีการสื่อความหมายที่ไม่ดีไปโผล่ในเกม
เกมดนตรี กีตาร์ ฮีโร่ 5 เปิดโอกาสให้ผู้เล่นได้เล่นดนตรีในหลายอุปกรณ์ ได้แก่ กีตาร์ , เบส , กลอง และไมโครโฟน นอกจากนั้นในเกมภาค 5 ยังปลดข้อจำกัด หนึ่งผู้เล่นต่อหนึ่งเครื่องดนตรี โดยผู้เล่นสามารถใช้เครื่องดนตรีหลายชิ้นประกอบรวมเข้ากันเพื่อเล่นเพลงหนึ่งเพลงได้ ยกตัวอย่างว่ากีตาร์ 2 ตัว และ กลอง 2 ชุดสามารถเล่นเพลงร่วมกันได้
กีตาร์ ฮีโร่ 5 จะออกวางจำหน่ายในวันที่ 1 กันยายนนี้ บนเครื่องเพลย์สเตชัน 3 , เพลย์สเตชัน 2 , Xbox360 และวี
